Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte met today with the President of the Libyan Presidential Council Fayez al-Serraj. At the center of the talks between the two leaders, in which Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio also took part, was the Libyan political situation and the developments of the negotiating tables between the Libyan parties.

Giuseppe Conte underlined the urgency – after too many years of instability and suffering for the Libyan people – to work to ensure that the political process led by the United Nations is fully shared and operational, as the only credible way to reach a comprehensive and sustainable solution, to start from the effective implementation of the ceasefire.

During the meeting, the other sectors concerning cooperation between Italy and Libya were also discussed, with specific regard to economic collaboration and in the security and defense sector.
