For Expo Dubai 2020 the Call for selection for the “Volunteers Program of the Italian Pavilion” was presented: the largest ever student mobilisation project, which in just over two weeks involved 8,000 female students and university students of over 70 nationalities enrolled in universities in all regions of the country and entered last March 15th the second stage.

The call for applications for Expo Dubai 2020 with the access requirements and terms of participation was presented with a digital event – that saw more than 3000 people connected on-line – attended by Maria Cristina Messa, Italian Minister of University and Research, Paolo Glisenti, Italy’s General Commissioner for Expo Dubai 2020 , and Ferruccio Resta, President of CRUI (Conference of Italian University Rectors).

The internship programme is the result of a collaboration between Italy’s Commissioner’s Office for Expo Dubai 2020 and Fondazione CRUI and it represents an important opportunity for Italian students to take part in the great universal exhibition of Expo Dubai 2020 for four months. The Programme will be a unique training opportunity an invaluable experience to expand their knowledge in the international arena.

Last year some students already took part in training experiences at the offices – both in Italy and Dubai –  of Italy’s Commissioner’s Office for Expo. Between the 300 students who applied for this opportunity, Ilaria De Capitani from Università degli Studi di Bergamo and Alice Furletto from Università degli Studi di Macerata were selected. The girls left for the Emirati city last January 15th and, because of pandemic, they returned a month earlier than due, in March 2020. In Dubai also the student Francesca Danni, winner instead of the tender proposed in collaboration with the IULM University of Milan.

Ilaria comes from Calolziocorte, in the surroundings of Lecco and is enrolled in MA in Languages for international cooperation. After spending a semester in Estonia, she decided to apply for this internship as a perfect opportunity to get into the international cooperation world. Her dream job would be working for the United Nations.

Alice was born in Falconara Marittima, near Ancona and is studying for her MA in Global Politics and International Relations in Moscow. She hopes to work in an international environment and believes that having the chance to part take in such an important event as Expo 2020 is not only an amazing learning opportunity, it is indeed a perfect way to observe the Exposition from behind the scenes.

Francesca Danni comes from Ivrean, in the Turin area. For her, this internship represents the unique chance to analyze the interactions between different cultures in the solution of problems we all share. Her biggest dream is to become Italian Ambassador in South America.
