On Tuesday 12 January 2021 the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA) opened the doors of the construction site – in the phase of completion – of the Coffee Training Center (CTC), financed entirely by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) with the project “Strengthening the sustainability and inclusiveness of the coffee supply chain through public-private partnerships”.
Thanks to the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), responsible for the technical assistance of the initiative, the ECTA center of excellence will offer specialized courses for various professional activities (sensory analysis, roasting, coffee preparation) as well as courses short for aficionados who wish to explore the rich aromatic world of the Arabica variety, characteristic of the Ethiopian highlands.
The center will be equipped with the most modern technologies, but always with an eye to respect for tradition. The machinery supplied and the content of the CTC courses are the result of the expertise of Illycaffe and the Ernesto Illy Foundation, which have provided their expertise in the field. The visit was also an opportunity to meet and exchange with the Director General of ECTA, Adugna Debele, on the future development prospects of the supply chain.
The visit was attended by the Owner of the AICS Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Isabella Lucaferri, the Director of UNIDO Ethiopia, Aurelia Calabrò, and several representatives of the European Union, German cooperation – GIZ and the German bank KFW. (Source: Aics)
