Italian Republic Day, celebrated every 2nd June, is one of the most heartfelt public holidays in our country, and especially among the Italian communities abroad. For the 75th anniversary of the Italian national celebratory day, several Italian Cultural Institutes abroad have organized various events, such as concerts, conferences and exhibitions to be closer to Italy on this important day.
The Italian Cultural Institute of Madrid, on the occasion of Italian Republic Day, will open its doors to the public: throughout the day there will be guided tours through the halls of the Palacio de Abrantes and it will be possible to visit the exhibition Dante 700 | A portrait of Dante and the poet’s places in Massimo Sestini’s photographs.
In the Salón de Actos, on the other hand, the concerts of the Musica | aɔisùM cycle, produced by the Italian Cultural Institute for online use, will be screened, while in the patio of the Institute there will be short theatrical readings in Italian of iconic texts of contemporary Italian literature with Bruno Gullo – Canti Vaganti company. For the little ones, there will be a short reading in Italian of passages taken from the book by Geronimo Stilton “The thousand wonders”.
In Chile, Italian Republic Day will be celebrated with the “Italy-Chile Friendship Marathon”, an initiative organized by the Italian Cultural Institute and the Embassy of Italy in Santiago de Chile, which will celebrate the recurrence with a concert and a tribute to the great poet Dante Alighieri, a journey into the divine comedy that will make use of voices and important figures of Chilean culture.
In addition, the winners of the contest “My favorite word in Italian is …” will receive an award, a challenge launched just for Italian Republic Day by the Italian Embassy which consists in sending a selfie video of up to 30 seconds in which the reason for the choice of a word, the favorite, present in the Italian dictionary. The event will be live streaming on the various channels of the institutions on YouTube and Facebook.
The Italian Institute of St. Petersburg, on the other hand, for the celebration of June 2 has chosen women, proposing a round table on “The women who built the Republic”, which will be broadcast on the IIC YouTube channel. Italian journalists, writers, historians and actresses will take part, including Dacia Maraini, Paola Cioni, Francesca Sancin, Teresa Saponangelo and Maria Cristina Blu. The discussion will be accompanied by scenic readings of excerpts from articles, autobiographies, diaries by Teresa Noce, Alba De Cespedes, Fausta Cialente, Teresa Mattei, Nilde Lotti and Lina Merlin.
At the end of the round table, the documentary “Bandite” by Alessia Proietti will be broadcast, which investigates the experience of women who fought in partisan formations from 1943 to 1945, revolutionizing the role assigned to them by the patriarchy and becoming the protagonists of history.
